Before E3, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was not even a concept to me. Following it’s inclusion at E3 I suddenly took notice and decided to do some research of this game. I came to realise this Battle Royale game could be one of the smarter moves from Xbox to make this a console launch exclusive. With a release expected around September when the game was planned to leave early access I was excited but it looks like I must wait a little longer.
PUBG Full Launch Date
Originally, PUBG’s (thankfully, there’s an acronym for this title!) full release was pushed back from the original six month timeframe resulting in an expected September release but now this Early Access game is not expected to launch fully on Steam until the end of 2017. An exact date is still unknown (ironic) but it appears this delay could still impact the Xbox One release.
Whilst delays are not uncommon in the video games industry, it is disappointing nonetheless that we will not be able to get our hands on this intriguing title sooner rather than later. PlayerUnknown has emphasised the reason for this delay is to ensure that product is a ‘fully relasied and polished Battle Royale experience’ which is a welcomed reason. No one wants to play a game that isn’t finished, especially if it is coming out of Early Access.
Brendon Greene from PlayerUnknown stated:
‘I’ve come to realise that restricting the release window to a specific month could hinder us from delivering a fully featured game and/or lead to disappointment within the community if the launch deadline is not met.
So, we have decided that we are going push the full launch back a bit from the initial six-month timeframe, but want to assure you that we are still planning a full release before the end of Q4 2017.’
Whilst the sentiment is appreciated, many Xbox One players will be waiting with baited breath to find out how long they will have to wait for this game to become available! If you haven’t had a chance to see what all the fuss is about then check out Jacksepticeye’s video series:
