Must Buy Games in May 2017

Every month, I tell you there are some games that you must buy and this month is no different! As we venture into the Summer months we see that the list of high profile releases starts to become thinner on the ground than the Winter months but that does not mean there aren’t some great games launching in May! In fact, some of the games releasing in May could end up being your favourite games for the rest of the year! Big claim I know but I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC
Release Date: 5th May

Any game made by Bethesda will peak my interest as they have a strong reputation for delivering great gaming experiences. Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom and Dishonored are just a few to mention and now, after taking on the Prey IP, the game looks set to be included in this list of great. The trailers for Prey have drawn comparisons to the Bioshock series, which is one of my favourite franchises, but more so than anything else the game looks to have the perfect mix of storyline, horror, puzle-solving and first person shooter. The assumption is this mix of game play features will deliver an incredible end product and based on the game play footage I have seen, I am not going to argue with those claims. If you’re looking for a dark adventure with a strong narrative then look no further!

Injustice 2

Platforms: Xbox One, PS4
Release Date: 16th May (NA), 19th May (EU)

The best way to describe Injustice 2 is Mortal Kombat meets DC Comics. The game includes your standard fighting game modes including campaign, online and arcade battles where you can choose from 29 characters including some new characters that were not included in Injustice: Gods Among Us including main antagonist, Brainiac! The combat in the game is genuinely fun and addictive as the RPG elements after each fight keep you coming back for more. With the inclusion of a Street Fighter-esque special ability for each fighter then this adds a cool dynamic to the fighting which is relatable to any DC Comics fan and the dynamic environments make it all the more fun to watch the action. I’m not a violent person but for this game I will make an exception.

Portal Knights

Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC
Release Date: 19th May (EU), 23rd May (NA)

I am not a fan of Minecraft and so at first glance Portal Knights would not normally interest me but this game has more depth and variety than the voxel based gameplay would lead you to believe. This game does have elements of Minecraft included but there are also some more interesting features to make the experience completely different too. Level up your character, become stronger or faster, learn some talents to help you defeat more enemies. The sandbox elements of building and crafting perfectly compliment the RPG elements and this makes for a highly addictive experience. The latest trailer helps explain what the game is all about but even better than that, you can play a free trial on Xbox One and PS4 now or alternatively, buy an early access version of the game on Steam now! Why wait?

Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC
Release Date: 26th May

Rime looks set to be an enthralling adventure game akin to the latest Zelda game on Nintendo Switch. Graphically it is stunning and the visuals give me a Greek mythology vibe that personally provides a keen point of interest. With a Zelda-esque game releasing onto Xbox and PlayStation it would suggest this game could be very popular and I would love to see the game achieve success. As with all story games it is hard to know how enjoyable the game will be upon release but the kudos the the guys working on this game as every trailer and glimpse of the game I see make me want to find out more and get my hands on the game as soon as possible. This game could be a huge crowd pleaser so keep you eyes open when this game releases, I’m sure you won’t want to miss it!
