After purchasing Bioshock Infinite approximately 3 years ago, I only managed to complete the game a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully, my determination to complete my backlog of games spanning the past few years has resulted in my realisation that the Bioshock series is considered one of the best gaming trilogies for good reason. Only now can I fully appreciate the disappointment to hear that Irrational games was dissolved in 2014 and so was any hope of another Bioshock game that was developed by Bioshock creator, Ken Levine, has been joined by some of the Irrational team to form a new studio, Ghost Story.
Ghost Story is not a new company and has been in business for some time but no games have been released by the studios. Levine and co have been working tirelessly on the studio’s first title which, as a Bioshock fan, sounds incredibly exciting. The title has been years in the making with details being shared in 2015 where Ken Levine described the game as having a small open world. The latest information describes the game as a “new immersive sci-fi game with RPG elements”. So maybe more System Shock than Bioshock, either way it sounds like we may see something to rival the Bioshock series. Here is Ghost Sotry’s latest statement:
“As a new studio we are excited to be working on our maiden game! However, individually our team members have been involved in the development and release of many games, including but not limited to System Shock 2, BioShock and BioShock Infinite, which were directed by Ken Levine under our former moniker Irrational Games.
“While we believe our new games will have strong appeal to fans of BioShock, our new focus allows us to craft experiences where the gameplay is as challenging as the stories.
“We are not yet ready to share any more on our new game, but we invite you to join us and take part in our community.”
What Is Next For Ghost Story?
For all Bioshock fans, this is great news since there have not been many games that rival Ken Levine’s last franchise but when will we get to hear more on this? Well, Levine is keynote speaker at EGX Rezzed at the end of March which may be the next platform for an announcement of some kind. At the very least we are sure to hear more about Ghost Story but here’s hoping there is more on the next game from the ex-Bioshock team.
