Monthly Free Games In June

Every month console gamers get treated to some free games, courtesy of Microsoft’s Games With Gold and Playstation Plus free games. So are the free video games in June worth playing?

Xbox One: Goat Simulator

This game had been a cult classic for quite some time. Despite there being no real objective throughout, other than to create chaos as a fury four legged mammal, there is something about this game that keeps bringing you back for more. Maybe it’s the idea of ramming pedestrians and causing explosions or licking every object in sight with an unnaturally large tongue. The truth is I don’t know why I like this game but I can guarantee it will be a lot of fun. Therefore, I’ve goat to say (had to be done) that it would be stupid to not at least try this game.

Don’t believe me? Here are the ratings across the web:

IGN score: 8/10
Metacritic score: 6.9/10
Trusted Reviews score: 6/10

TJSimpsonz score: 8/10

Xbox One: The Crew

The Crew is a decent racing game with one of the largest open world settings in any driving game to date, however you can’t help feeling at times that it is trying to be too much. Since there is only an online game mode you would think this game would be at the pinnacle of social racing games. Unfortunately this is not how the end product feels as there is an underlying feeling of alienation from other players during the game. This may change as more people join the community after finding out it is free. I think it’s worth investing your time into so grab it while it’s free!

Here’s how it stacks up:

IGN score: 6/10
Metacritic score: 6/10
Trusted Reviews score: 7/10

TJSimpsonz score: 7/10

Xbox 360: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a top-down, strategy shooter that has been well received by gaming critics. This turn based game is develop by 2K and is the best of its kind. Unfortunately, for me, it was a fairly average experience but that is simply because I don’t enjoy these types of games. It’s hard to turn down a freebie though so give it a go, you may love it.

Find out what others have said:

IGN score: 8.2/10
Metacritic score: 4.5/5
Trusted Reviews score: 9/10

TJSimpsonz score: 7/10

Xbox 360: Super Meat Boy

Super Meat Boy has all the classic ingredients that make up a great platformer; a ballsy hero, a damsel in distress and a twisted kidnapper. This game relives the difficulty of orginal platform games with very simplistic game play. If you suffer from severe gaming rage then get another controller as this game is very tough but the sense of accomplishment when you finish this game is akin to the old school titles on retro consoles. This game is a must have if you are a retro games fan which I imagine is most gamers.

I’m not the only one who think so:

IGN score: 9/10
Metacritic score: 4.5/5
Gamespot score: 9/10

TJSimpsonz score: 9/10

Playstation Plus: NBA 2K16

nba 2k16

NBA 2K16 is a good Basketball sim that should be played by any sports fan. There is a sense of realism in this game that was not apparent in previous versions and basketball fans, in particular, will have the upper hand with this game as there is more emphasis on using real life basketball strategy. With plenty of ways to play this game, including a career story mode and online head to head matches, you will get plenty of hours of game play from this game. It’s a steal considering you wouldn’t have to part any money to shoot some hoops.

See the scores below to see how it stacks up:

IGN score: 9/10
Metacritic score: 4.5/5
Gamespot score: 8/10

TJSimpsonz score: 8/10

Playstation Plus: Gone Home

Gone Home is a first person adventure game set in a home stricken with melancholy. The idea is to explore your home to reveal more information as to why you have been left at home alone. This is a game that will require some patience and deduction, however the time you invest in this game is worthwhile as there is a real sense of accomplishment at the end of the story, not to mention how impactful the storyline is on the whole. This will definitely be a game to remember.

See for yourself how highly rated this game is across the web:

IGN score: 9.5/10
Metacritic score: 4/5
Gamespot score: 9.5/10

TJSimpsonz score: 8/10
